Congratulations on getting to Day 6 of your Guilty Pleasures! I hope you have been finding some deceptively easy things to do to take loving care of yourself and that perhaps some of your stress is melting away. Have you ever gone to sleep feeling uptight, upset, or even angry? If you have, perhaps you experienced that your next morning isn’t a whole lot better than the night before. Even though you’ve had some shut eye, the emotions you went to bed with stay with you, and depending on the intensity of the emotion, it can stay in your body for a very long time.
One of the gifts I give to myself to help combat this is meditation. Yes, I know I said I hated meditation, but what I really hate is the pressure to try to “do” it right! It is like a tug of war going on inside my mind: part of me wanted to relax and enjoy the benefits of meditation, and the other Type A part of me was so consumed with the getting it right, that it defeated the whole purpose and I would just skip it.
Then I discovered that meditation can come in many shapes and sizes, and that there are no hard and fast rules. Now, as I once did, you may be thinking you don’t have the time to meditate, but I can tell you that all you ever need is five minutes!
Here are some meditation myths that may still exist:
